Privacy Policy

How SKIP. collects, uses, shares and retains information when you ask or answer paid travel questions.

Effective date: [TODO — public launch date]

1. Who we are

SKIP. ("SKIP.", "we", "us") operates the SKIP. platform at skipandask.com, where Travelers pay to ask a personal travel question and Locals answer it.

SKIP. is intended to operate through a Florida limited liability company. That company has not been formed yet, so the controlling legal entity and its registered address are not final.

You can contact us about anything in this policy at hello@skipandask.com.

Internal note — to finalize before launch: Legal entity: [TODO — Florida LLC legal name, to be completed after formation]. Mailing address: [TODO — business / mailing address, to be completed before launch].

2. Information we collect

We collect the information you give us and a limited amount of information created automatically when you use SKIP.

  • Account information: email address, password credentials handled by our authentication provider, display name, app language and role (Traveler, Local, or both).
  • Local profile information: city, languages, specialties, connection types, tenure, bio, availability and profile photo. This is content you choose to publish on the platform.
  • Question and message content: the text of your question, follow-up and answers, any image you attach, and machine translations of those messages.
  • Transaction records: question purchases, refunds, Local earnings and withdrawal records. Card details are entered directly with Stripe and never reach SKIP.
  • Payout status: for Locals, whether Stripe Connect onboarding is complete or restricted. Bank details are held by Stripe, not by SKIP.
  • Safety and moderation records: reports you submit or that concern you, moderation decisions, and intimate-image removal requests.
  • Technical records: server and error logs and basic request metadata needed to operate and secure the service.

3. How we use information

We use information to run the service you asked for, and to keep it safe.

  • Creating and maintaining your account, and showing the correct Traveler and Local screens.
  • Delivering paid questions, follow-ups and answers, and running the question lifecycle and its deadlines.
  • Taking payment, issuing automatic refunds, calculating Local earnings and enabling withdrawals.
  • Translating messages so each side can read them in their own language, while preserving the original text.
  • Sending transactional email, such as notifying a Local that a question has arrived.
  • Handling reports, moderation, disputes, fraud prevention and platform safety.
  • Meeting accounting, tax and other legal obligations.

4. Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers needed to operate SKIP., and where the law requires it.

  • Stripe — payment processing for question purchases and Stripe Connect payouts to Locals. Stripe collects and holds card and payout details directly.
  • Our backend and hosting provider — database, authentication, file storage and application hosting.
  • Translation providers — message text is sent for translation. We use an AI translation gateway as the primary provider and Google Cloud Translation as the secondary fallback.
  • Resend — delivery of transactional email.
  • Legal and safety disclosures — where required by law, or to investigate fraud, abuse or a serious safety risk.

5. What other users can see

A Local's public profile — first name, city, photo, languages, specialties, response time, rating and reviews — is visible to signed-in Travelers.

Visitors who are not signed in see a restricted view: availability, specialties, response time, rating and price, without names, full photos, full bios or history.

A Traveler's name and photo are visible to the Local they paid to talk to. Your email address, password and payment details are never shown to other users.

6. Retention and account deletion

We aim not to keep identifiable personal information for longer than is reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this policy.

When you delete your account, we remove your login access and your identifying profile content, and we de-identify the identity shown on records we keep. Profile photos are deleted from storage.

Deleting your account does not erase every record. Transaction, refund, earning, payout, report and moderation records are retained, in de-identified form where possible, because they are needed for transaction history, disputes, fraud prevention, accounting, tax and legal obligations.

Specific retention periods have not been finalized and are subject to legal and compliance review.

Internal note — to finalize before launch: Numeric retention periods per data category require attorney / compliance review before launch.

7. Your choices and requests

You can review and update your profile information in the app at any time, change your app language, and delete your account from your profile settings.

For any privacy or data-rights request, contact hello@skipandask.com. We may need to verify your identity before acting on a request.

8. International users and transfers

SKIP. is available internationally, subject to applicable law and to platform and payment availability in your country. Users outside the United States, including in Japan, may use SKIP. as Travelers or Locals.

Information may be processed in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate.

We do not claim compliance with any specific regional privacy law in this version of the policy. The applicability of the GDPR, UK GDPR and Japan's APPI, the requirements for international data transfers, and any regional notice, consent or representative obligations, are under review.

Internal note — to finalize before launch: GDPR / UK GDPR / APPI applicability, transfer mechanisms, regional notices and any representative requirement all need attorney / privacy review.

9. Children

SKIP. is not directed to children. You must be old enough to enter a binding contract in your jurisdiction to use SKIP.

Internal note — to finalize before launch: Confirm the minimum-age statement and any jurisdiction-specific child-privacy obligations with counsel.

10. Changes to this policy

For material changes, we will notify users by email and by in-app notice where appropriate. For minor or non-material changes, publishing the updated page with a new date may be sufficient.

Where applicable law requires your affirmative consent for a particular change, we will obtain that consent before the change applies to you.
